Melodies of Reproductive Justice
Classical Vulvas Collection (Summer 2022)

Melodies of Reproductive Justice: The Classical Vulva Collection
is a 25-piece art exhibit featuring a unique classical opera collection that includes the sardonic graphic and wording re-design and augmentation of the album covers of existing vinyl opera albums, and the painting of the vinyl records as a woman’s vulva, in abstract style.

Bordering on the ridiculous to the offensive, Melodies of Reproductive Justice combines words and images to raise awareness, encourage self-reflection and spur discussion around reproductive health, abortion, and gender equity.

Using vinyl record collections from family and friends, the aim of the project is to give a humorous voice to the difficult subject matter of “reproductive health” through the creative use of uncommon materials.
This album cover and vinyl record art-messaging project was created by Haley Reash-Henz, sex educator, artist and reproductive rights advocate; alongside her mother, Reverend Georgia M. Reash, sexual assault advocate, transformative artist and poet and trauma community strategist. The daughter-mother team use their shared passion for art and the empowerment of women and girls to bring forward projects that harness the power of the arts to create change and inspire healing.

Melodies of Reproductive Justice: The Classical Vulva Collection was created in the Summer of 2022 as an indignant passion-response to the U.S. reversal of Roe Vs. Wade and the rising tide of attack on women’s reproductive rights.
The collection is used in community art exhibits and training workshops; it also accompanies workshops conducted by the artist educators provided at organizational and community gatherings.
